Our Evolving Cat

Jubilee has taught herself how to open doors. We often close the bedroom door on her if we want to eat in peace, or the bathroom door if she's making a ruckus in there, but it's now to no avail: she's taught herself to jump up, hit the door handle, and simultaneously push so that the door opens. I think we need to convert everything from handles to knobs, except at this rate in her cat evolution it seems that nothing is a guarantee.

And you all thought Lucy was a pain...

Prague

Hey everybody, I am currently sitting in my hotel in Prague, Czechoslovakia and it is a beautiful city, I am telling you. Yes, you may be wondering what I am doing in front of a computer when I am in a foreign city, but we have are back at the hotel, and I had a chance just to come on the computer. But I have to go.
Its beautiful, and I'm sure all of you are jealous, so I'm going to leave all of you alone to be green. I'll see all of you soon!

5 weeks to go

Im exactly five weeks away from graduation, and everything so far is going well. I passed my PT test, and tests in school are getting much easier. Every test is 3 hours long and I had a big problem concentrating for the whole time, but i've gotten into the groove and am doing good. I got 100s on the two of the last three tests, and on the third test I tied for the highest score in my platoon.

Besides class i pretty much dont do anything. Im trying to go to the gym everyday (we'll see how that goes), but besides that I usually just hang out. Tomorrow is another road march. Were doing 10 miles, which is currently the most i've ever done so i hope it goes well. The last road march was actually real easy, the only problem is we have to be at formation at 0230! Road marches are real good for you though, builds up shoulders, backs, legs, and burns some fat. Just from carrying all my books (about 50 pounds) back and forth from class i've noticed a dramatic difference, so when i get home were definetly doing some marches.

Sounds like May is gonna be a blast. We got everyone coming in and i cant wait to see everyone again (ya, i am getting a little home sick).

And did I mention platanos?

Ok Dad, pass along the message to Mom. And stoke that fire, cause I've been living on prefabricated, monosaturated, polysophonic crap for months now.

I could use some home cooking.

TDW (Two Day Weekend...)

I guess every weekend is a TDW....

I am glad to see that you guys are posting...

Phil, Marcie is in Ohio this weekend.

X and M went to Manhattan for St. Patty's...

Mom and I are hanging out, went to Mass, then the Gym, having lunch, watching a movie, taking a nap, going to dinner with X and M to celebrate grad school

Phil, I liked the nittany lion story, specially the current situation. I am glad to see the wild-life is still going strong in America's colleges.

I am very upset about this lady that they are letting die in Florida, only because the ex-husband wants her out of the way. That's what the Nazis did in the 1930's.

I went with Marcie to a meeting for her trip to Czech Republic and there was a presentation by a survivor of Aushwich. She was 16 years old when she was sent there. 4 million people died in that concentration camp in 5 years. I can't believe that this happened in our time and that we still live in a world where there is so much hate, violence and where there is still genocide going on.

First week of May is going to be fun, fun fun....

Dan will be home, X and M will be on summer break and I hear Phil is planning to take a few days off as well. Mom has offered to prepare a special dinner for each one of you. If you want to take advantage of this offer, please post a blog with your most favorite meal.

Mom and Dad

I asked Jason Burnham for the origin of the Nittany Lion, the mascot of PSU. The Nittany Lion is a mountain lion who takes its name from nearby Mt Nittany.

Mt Nittany was, a hundred years ago, full of mountain lions, until they were devestated by roving bands of crazy frat guys and disheveled, irate professors.

A senior visiting Princeton, whose mascot is the tiger, realized PSU lacked a comparable symbol.

Joe Mason, the Sherlock Holmes of seniors, wrote in the student paper back in 1907:
"Why cannot State have a kingly, all-conquering Lion as the eternal sentinel?"

So the Nittany Lion was made mascot of Penn State. And today the Nittany Lion has regained its former status, and great numbers, and can be found roaming the nearby Mount., stealing livestock, growling at freshman, in all his former glory.

...the last part is totally assumed...

Monique

If anybody hasn't yet heard, Monique's been accepted into the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies for graduate study this coming fall. And despite her current sustenance of my crippling addiction to Starbucks beverages, she's accepted their offer! She'll be there for two years, studying for her master's. This is going to put a lot of pressure on Jubilee to succeed academically, of course. We're not accepting anything less than Bovine University from her.

May

Alright, I'll be in NJ the first week in May, I put it down on my schedule.

Soccer

Whew, played a little more effectively this time around. Man, soccer is so damn fun, I am not sure why I haven't been playing more. Maybe since its indoor, and more fast paced this way, but its a good time.

This time last week I blew a lung, but today I pushed a little more. Pulled a nice deke, and went for a left foot shot, but I couldn't pull it off. Next week.

My monologue continues, since no one else is posting.

X, I'm going to look @ dates in May, already talked to Dan about it, and I'll stop by then. Its the most definite time I can hang with you guys. Dan and I figured that we're going to do some Special Forces training, put his BDU's on, and full rucksacks, and go to the YMCA and jump into the pool. You're doing it too. And Dad, too. Good training, right?

Butterfly translated

In Spanish its mariposa, in French papillon, and in Italian its farafalla. In German, schmetterling. Rolls off the tongue.

System error, FI057...

That is my mantra this weekend, trying to get this thing resolved for work.

At work, I'm going to start putting some pressure on my managers for a promotion. By the end of April, I will have been here for six months, and I think I'm up for it. The way promotions go, you have to do the job of one level above you, then you get promoted retroactively. Its not the official line, but that is how it goes. And I have been doing the work of one level above me, in my perspective.

Dad, I had to cancel the presentation they asked me to do yesterday, as I already was scheduled to go to an ASUG meeting. I intended on going the whole day, but with work, I couldn't afford that much time, so I just picked out one speaker to see, and unfortunately, it was during the time they wanted me to speak. I said we can do it next week. ASUG, is the American SAP User Group, a huge SAP end-user community, with a lot of good SAP resources.

well same all same all

everythings been pretty much the (as you can tell from the title) same lately. its been a while but everything is back to normal. i've just recovered from a case of the worse flu i've had in years, and then pink eye (which i got the worst out of the whole company, dont ask me why). Now that i'm feeling better though its all good. the only bad thing is that because of my being sick my PT is heavily lacking, and we have our final test this thursday so sadly no perfect score for me, oh well.
school is good. i've gotten back into the groove of taking tests (and most of all checking my work), and have gotten 100s on the last two tests.
well, just wanted to give everyone a quick update on fort huachuca. I hope everyone is doing well, as i must go (7 1/2 mile march tomorrow morning at 0330!).

Dan

ps if anyone has any good spanish music send it to me. im trying to learn spanish by listening to the music, but all i have is regatone so the only thing i've learned so far is how to say gangsta.

Transport

Dan, can you get other people on military transports when flying, like me? Of course I would be traveling with you.
