Resolute

Columbus, Ohio
New Years Eve, 2004 - 2005

In the Columbus Museum of Art I came into a room and it was a pleasant one. It was all Cubist and good Picassos and Juan Gris and others but really good ones. There had never been anything like that either in choice or quality or like that in any other museum.

— Gertrude Stein, Everybody's Autobiography

We'll see if anything has changed, since I'm going to drop by before they close today. The museum had a Monet exhibit that might still be running right now.

After having grown up around New York, going anywhere else seems dimunitive.

Between Holidays

Its going to be a quiet week here in Ohio. A lot of people are still on vacation, and I'm busy securing my security access.

To my brothers, go see this trailer for Sin City. It looks unbelievable. Plus, if you want, there is a WETA workshop interview about the making of a Narnia movie. Narnia magic never looked so good.

Now that we're all gone again, start posting people.

The Pressing Questions

1. Will Xavier ever get his puppy chow?

2. If Xavier doesn't get his puppy chow, can he have some of Phil's or will he have to nip it when the dykeeni isn't looking?

Finals, 2004. It's officially over. I'm going to sleep. Posted by Hello

And they're off...

8:20 PM. I'm starting to work on writing now that all my research is done. I'm not sleeping until I'm finished with all three first drafts. It's going to be a tough, tough night. Wish me luck; I already have coffee.

Canada

Ok, I've officially been to Canada. I'm in the city of Ottawa right now, sitting in the Marriott, right off the Ottawa River.

Canada is really nice from what I've seen so far, the airport is so sleek looking, I really liked it. It kind of feels like the ipod of airports, its not the first of its kind, but its defintely one of the coolest.

I rented a car, but it turns out I am only four blocks away from my training site. I took a walk there before, and it is cold outside, but its close, so I'll probably end up walking everday.

History lesson. Ottawa is the capital of Canada, having used to be called Bytown, and sits right on the border of Ontario and Quebec. There is a huge French presence around, everything being written in both English and French everywhere you go. Many people seem to actually speak French primarily, having an accent when they speak English, which is funny really, when you realize this is part of the British Commonwealth.

Hope all is well with everyone, and as a note, Christmas is coming up sooner than I thought! I'll see you people next week, actually!

5:07 AM

At this time of the morning, three questions away from finishing my Math Logic final due at noon, I feel off. The two cheese pizzas delivered at midnight are unappeasing, the coffee Monique made me a few hours ago grows stale, and the iPod just begs for a recharge. They're all beginning to bleed into each other now that I've broken in on that lunacy produced by a lack of sleep. Now the only thing I can think about is the time that Dad forced me to get up at 5:30 to write on the dining room table in Stratton Circle an essay owed to Mr. Kurt, the besmirched shop teacher at Foothill Middle School. Not much has changed, huh?

Good weekend in NJ

Hey Monique-

It was good to see Richards, for all of the five minutes he was actually around. Its true. I saw him the first day, and he was hanging around outside. I tried to call him into the house like a dog, but he wouldn't have it, and so I finally had to go.

As for Christmas time, I look forward to seeing you and my little brother, and your parents as well. Will they be spending the holiday with us? That's great if they do.

Mr. Richards for the Weekend

Hey Phil,

Did you like having your little Mr. Richards for the weekend? When are you going to be at Flemington for the Holidays?

Xavier and I plan on being there with my folks on either late the 22nd or on the 23 early in the day. So we will see everybody soon.

moving

things are going pretty well down under. the US ARMY(Uncle Sam Aint Released Me Yet) has still not kicked me out, so i take that as a sign im doing decent. nothing new has really happened, besides me getting fed up with the army and waking up early(that'll be another post on its own), but i did get phased. im now phase 5 so im allowed to have tvs, computers, xboxs and anything else i want in my room. the only problem is i move tomorrow, to charlie company, which are open bays. now, not even during basic do they torture you with open bays (60 guys to a room), but here in AIT they have taken our rooms, personal space, away from us and we now share a 4X4 foot square with the guy who sleeps above us. Anyway, I am gonna try and make the best of it and enjoy myself nonetheless. Well, good hearing from everyone and keep up with the cat blogging.

Could Jubilee Be The Next Lucy?

The little one is getting bigger by the moment. She jumped onto our window sill for the first time today. Hopefully she won't knock all our pictures off the sill. We took some of the delicate stuff off of the window just in case she jumps up there while we are out. Just a little bit of random Botero Cat Blogging.

Rain Rain Everywhere!

Hi Everybody,

Today our little cat, Jubilee, went to the vet. She got her rabies vaccine and another distemper vaccine. Just one more left then all we have to do is get her fixed. She is happy and getting braver by the day. Running around and causing mild mischief, like kittens should. Xavier is very busy, as he stated in his post, but I'm sure all his hard work will pay off. Just two weeks till I take the GRE and till Xavier is getting done with school.

- Marcie don't worry about the job change...I worked at a Vet's office for one day only. I love animals, but I couldn't stand how dirty the place was and how they left the poor animals living without air conditioning on the hot summer nights. Working at a place that sells retail also has the added bonus of discounts if nothing else. Plus the smell of your new job must be better.

Does anybody know what our placement in the Turkey Trot was? Who's Marlie Botero? Haha. Check out the link -- http://www.compuscore.com/cs2004/novdec/flemtur1.htm#overall

See you all for Christmas!

December

December looks like its going to be both a busy and fun month for myself everybody. Today turned out great, at first I was put off by the seemingly 18th straight day of rain (coupled with the Midwestern wind - which is brutal ), but the day ended up beautiful. And I saw it all from the cafe's window.

I'm really looking forward to going home this weekend for some home cooking. I'm really hurting, so Dan, you must be dying right now. I'm getting home cooking right?

And of course I look forward to seeing most everybody - New Haven Boteros, I'll see you at Christmas - and also seeing my friend get married.

I'm getting ramped up at work, and I am getting more and more involved into the project every day. It also helps that I work with some really sharp people, of course, and have them both as resources and role models. I'm also looking forward to training coming up, it will be very interesting, especially with the knowledge I'm brining aboard.

hiatus

Well, tomorrow's my last day of classes. I have two final papers due next week and three due the week after, for a total of some 60-70 pages of tough writing. That means, bye-bye till Xmas time, everybody. I'm only emerging from my study cocoon to comment on college app essays and to receive gifts of delicious chocolate (hint, hint).

See everyone on the other side...

job switching

I am quitting my job at the Pet shop because it is soooo obnoxious that they are only paying me $5.15 and only giving me 3 hours a week, so, therefore, I am quitting. And now have a job at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Liberty Village. So, I thought I would just let yall know what is new in my life.

How is everyone? Give some updates.
